Strawberry Short Cake:

This may be one of my favourite cakes.    It was a simple design, yet the contrasting bright colours gave it a fun cartoon feel.  I really wanted to get a strawberry short cake candle as I had seen some cute one in pictures, but nothing to be found in the area for purchase and didn't order on line in time.  Never the less, was happy with the turn out of the cake.  It was a vanilla cake with vanilla butter cream.
Happy Birthday to Madison who turned 3!

Harley Davidson:

Though my freehand is far from perfect, this was a fun cake to take a crack at.  My cousin in law was celebrated his birthday recently and his wife surprised him with a "Harley Davidson" cake.  Owning a Harley himself its fair to say he loves the theme.  A chocolate cake with a chocolate butter cream frosting.

Bird Safari!

DeDerieke was having a belated birthday party and she along with friends were headed to the Bird Kingdom in Niagara Falls.  To keep a fun and bright theme we did a dozen cupcakes of birds and dragon flies.  Great colours, great flavours and a lot of fun!

Cake Fit for A Princess : Cinderella

It was Emily's turn this month, (we did her sister Victorias cake a month back).   It was her birthday and her favourite princess of all is of course: Cinderella.  What a fun theme to try out my "first shoe" (Of gum paste at least).   Did a little research on line and found out how to make the perfect glass slipper to top this Cinderella cake.  Wrapped with her black necklace and a her blue ball gown inspired cake cover and it was a cake fit for the ball!  I got great feed back from Emily when dropping off! It was a lot of fun to see the smiles.  Happy Birthday Emily!

Pink, Orange & Black/White Polka Dots!

I had the privilege of doing some cupcakes for a very amazingly themed birthday party a few weeks back.  Tamsen has great eye for style (hence her amazingly successful photography business) and we had the chance to create cupcakes that would fit just perfectly into her party.  We found the perfect cupcake wrappers and topped them to match.  A huge thank you to Tamsen from "Creative Clicks Photography" for sending these great pictures!
note: cupcakes were done by frosted spoon, toppers by Tamsen herself.

Ladies Night Was A Hit!

What a night! I've never seen so many ladies in 1 house before! Frosted Spoon enjoyed a great night hosted by "Frosting" (Make Up Line) along with many other vendors a week back in which we could show off our stuff & give people a sample of what we do.  We displayed our favourite flavours such as Vanilla, Chocolate, Peanut Butter & Red Velvet.  It was great to meet so many new people and get a chance to let them know what we are all about.    Also got a chance to incorporate this years trends into our display; a very natural christmas feel.  A great & successful night was had! Cant wait for next year.

Happy Birthday Victoria!

Victorias birthday was approaching and we needed to plan the perfect cake to show off a few of her favourite things.  Littlest Pet Show Figurines that is.  She was certain she wanted them on her cake.  So we created a cake to display just that!  A vanilla double layer cake with vanilla butter cream icing.  Her name and laced border in a deep purple decorated the cake. It was a perfect fit for a party.
Happy Birthday Victoria!

A Pretty Pink Bow

That is exactly what this cake had!  A good friend wanted to bring her mom a special cake for her birthday, so to the design board we went.  There were several inspirations for this cake, but the one theme we waned to portray was to ensure it was classic and beautiful just like Rachel's mother.  Rachel who ultimately chose the design loves a modern look and so we incorporated that as well.  This large pink bow covered a vanilla cake with fresh vanilla buttercream icing.  It was surely a treat to put this design to work.

Celebrating With Pokemon and Friends

Katie has a great imagination and it was so fun to create a cake that she would love!  First things first was she needed a Pokemon cake.  The big decisions was, what friend would join "Pikachu" on the cake.  It was a easy decision for Katie the winner was 'Turtwig".  The bright colours and different dimensions of this cake were completed with a full set of "Pokemon Balls".  This surely was a fun and unique cake to create! Happy Birthday Katie, hope you enjoyed your special day!  (I think the below pictures prove she did)

Another Princess Turns 1!

It was Katelyns turn for her big day! After having a daughter of my own who recently turned 1 I can relate to how much fun it is to throw a princess/pink party.   Katelyn had just that!  We did detailed crowns, butterflies & flowers to top the vanilla/ chocolate cupcakes with co-ordinating  icing.  I recently purchased a new decorating tool (The Cake Cricut) and this special occasion gave me my first chance to use it! It was a lot of fun making the perfect details for on top of the cupcakes!  Happy 1st Birthday Katelyn!

May The Force Be With You!

You Guessed it... YODA! It is extra special when the guest of honour has great theme to work with!
These cupcakes were especially fun for a little guys birthday party.  Though doing characters can be tricky as I am no George Lucas it was fun to give it my best shot! Maybe all you star wars fans can let me know what you think? LOL. I loved the colour of these and attempted to give them as much detail as possible.  This was defiantly a fun batch of cupcakes to decorate! Congratulations Little Yoda!

Bright colours for the Baby2B :)

A co- worker of mine was throwing a shower for her niece who is expecting there first baby in the very near future!  I was honoured when she asked us to be part of the day! As always we wanted to find how we could personalize this to the Mom2B with out letting on too much what we were up to :)  I had a chance to actually talk with the Mom2B and found out the colours they had chosen.  For all you 'Benjamin Moore' lovers "Trout Grey" was the back drop for this cake.  With layers of vibrant blue &yellow topped with circles & flowers of a deep purple and bright pink!  These great colour were accented over the classic flavours of vanilla and chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream icing.   I hope everyone enjoyed as much as I did creating!

Double Trouble! Happy Birthday Bo and Mackenzie!

What are the chances that Bo and Mackenzie (Brother and Sister) share the same birthday, how fun!  Mom treated them this year with cupcakes with their theme of choice.  So Bo chose Barney and Mackenzie wanted something for "Girls Only" of course!  So Purple and Pink was the colours on the swatch for this project!  And a lot of fun it was! Congratulations to both, I hope you enjoyed your special cupcakes!

Another Lucky Birthday Girl!

Its so fun when the guest of honour having there birthday has a favourite theme.  Because what could be better then watching your favourite character on TV?  But having character and eating it too!  Catharine loves Dora and so we created some cupcakes to bring Dora right to her own party!  The vibrant colours were a lot of fun to worth with.  As well designing some little critters to crawl through the grass was a fun touch.  As always creating cupcakes are an adventure.  This time it was a Dora Adventure!  Happy Birthday Catharine!

Thanksgiving Celebrated in Style!

Jen knew that when she was asked to bring dessert to her family dinner, she didn't want to bring any ordinary dessert, she wanted to bring cupcakes that would set the theme for the day!  I really enjoyed bringing this theme to life! With fall colours and all the fixings she had the perfect centre piece for the occasion! We even made some personalized ones for her nephews.  Her sister Leanne  liked the cupcakes so much she took the time to share her delight   "Thank you so much for making cupcakes for our family thanksgiving.  We all enjoyed them soo much, especially my little nephew.  You're definitly talented!"  Thanks Jen and family for having some Frosted Spoon with Thanksgiving :)

A Great Introduction to Fall

I have to admit, when summer ends and falls is here, its not my favourite season change.  But this day helped me to welcome all the beauty fall has to offer (The Colours at least)  We had alot of fun being part of Andrea and Matthews Special day.  All took place at the Pillar and Post in Niagara On the Lake.  Setting up shortly before the excitment was about to begin, all the details were coming together! It was a beautiful location for a beautiful wedding!  Andrea has great attention for detail and quality.  So it was fun to create a 5 Tier Cupcake Tree with a Cake for cutting on top!  The them was a nature feel.  Beautiful burnt orange and chocolate brown accents.  It was a pleasure to be part of!  Some pics to show the "Sweet" Highlights.

A Special 5th Birthday!

It was a special girls 5th birthday & her mom wanted to make sure they celebrated in style!  She ordered some cupcakes with a dog theme; hand picked by the birthday girl herself!  It was extra fun creating these!  They topped chocolate & vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream icing!
Happy Birthday Catharine from Frosted Spoon!

Congratulations John and Karen!

Another exciting day in the wonderful world of weddings.  I just LOVE weddings.  Ever since I was a little girl even.  The only sad part about my own wedding was that it was over.   So now I will live vicariously by talking to other bride and grooms, hearing about there details and doing all I can to make there day one more step to perfect!  John and Karen said I do on Sept 24th.  They chose a gold and burgundy theme.  It was fun to prepare and deliver!  Congratulations John and Karen!

Happy Birthday to Our Princess!

Wow, a year has flown by and we recently celebrated our daughters (aka "the princess") first birthday!  Of course this day held double excitement for me because I have been "dreaming" about making a cake for this day for a long time.  Of course my new love for cupcakes along with cake decorating meant that the day had to have both.  So in the kitchen we went!
Happy Birthday Princess!

Woody and Buzz to the Rescue!

My nephew turned 2 in July and to keep with tradition I made him a special cake! This
time I incorporated cupcakes with my cake and had fun again with a cupcake stand! The theme for the creations today was Toy Story. Time was not on my side, so I had to get a few special pieces quickly to tie this all together, or else I was going to need a new game plan! I was able to find the Woody figurine at my mom's and the buzz light year at Michael's. Phew. Now that I had those in place, it was time to think and finalize a design! Doing the wood fence on the cake was a new technique. Not that it was overly challenging, but it was new all together. The buzz light year moons and sheriff badges helped me tie in the cupcakes. I just did chocolate and vanilla with a butter cream icing. Over all this was a fun cake. Happy 2nd Birthday Aaron!

Cupcake stands!

There is no excuses here, life got a bit busy, then I (along with the fam) went on 2 weeks holidays and it is now that I am home and realizing there are a few events that need some blogging.
Prior to my blogging lull, I was asked to make some cupcakes for a friend who was attending and helping plan a wedding shower. I also have the privilege of doing the cupcakes for this wedding come the fall, and so I thought I would play around with colours and experiment in creatinga cupcake stand. I did some googling and looking around and came across a design that I felt affordable and easy to make. The deal closer for me was that I could ad a bit of design to the stand to make it personal to the event.
Enjoy some pictures of the cupcakes, but the stand as well!

A Sad Good Bye Gives Me A Reason To Experiment!

I had the pleasure of getting to know several exchange students this year from Smithville District Christian Highschool. Three in particular were around a lot at church and visited our Church Youth Group. So last night in light of them leaving we had a little get together at a local restaurant called MT Bellies. This of course gave me an excuse to make a cake. It also gave me an excuse to experiment with modelling gum paste. I had been wanting to try for a while, just didn't know what to make. So below are some pictures of my Canadian Inspired Cake! I will miss you Dorothy, Barne and Ploy! I hope our paths cross again!

The figurines as said are made out of a 50/50 mix of gum paste (purchased not made) and MM Fondant. A chocolate cake and some buttercream icing! Its the perfect mix really! They seemed to enjoy!

School is out!

So I had my last "Cake Class" today. It was a fun 12 weeks, shared with my friends Emily and Lynette! Micheals in St. Catharines offers a fun set of courses to teach you the basics of cake decorating. But I have done them all now and so need to just practice and improve my skills over time! Below is a few pics of my last cake. It looks a little worse then original... it had a few car rides before any pictures were taken! I will miss tuesday mornings with the girls, but look forward to some of the "projects" it will allow me to try!
