On The Go!

Wow, these last four weeks have been a whirlwind and there is no sign of a slow down any time soon!  Thank you to all our friends who have enjoyed what we do over these last few weeks and years!  We have had the fun of doing 3 different vendor markets over the last 4 weeks and have had an amazing response each time.  November 12th we set up shop at the Dunnville Christian School Bazaar.  Then on to the Maple Acres Christmas Market on November 25/26.  And finished off for now December 1st at the Frosting Spa & Boutique Grand Opening / Christmas Shopping Night.  Between the 3 events we made and sold almost 1000 cupcakes! Wow! We have enjoyed making new contacts and friends.  Below is just a look at what we were up to.  A huge thank you to Morgan Falk Photography for the 3rd  & 4th collage!  Enjoy and thank-you again to all.

PINK!

I love pink.  Always have, always will.  It goes well with so many other colours, but even more so with multiple shades of itself!  Tamsen, a returning friend of Frosted Spoon always plans the most beautiful birthday parties for her girls and this year was no exception.  We are honoured that she let us be the "centre piece".  Though I can take credit for the visiton of this cake, it was a amazing project to recreate our own version of.  The look of the cake came from www.glorioustreats.blogspot.com.  What you see below if a 5 layer vanilla cake layered with custard, homemade strawberry jam and butter cream.  Mmmm.  We coloured the layers 5 different layers of pink to give the cake a fun look inside and out!  The out side is swirled with different shades of pink vanila butter cream.  How fun it was! Thank you also to Tamsen for sharing some pictures with me from the party.  The table set up was awesome!  I just had to make 2 collages for this one! Enjoy.

Jakob Turns 1!

One of the fun things about being in the cupcakes / cake business is getting to make your nephews (which is all I have in this case) birthdays a little more colourful.  Jakob turned one just a few days after my own newborn son (Ashton) was born and so I didnt get a chance to bake the cupcakes and present Jacob with them myself.  I did however manage to make a few colourful cupcake toppers yet for his Mom to use for the celebration!  Just a few pics...
Happy Birthday Jakob and I promise to make a big fancy cake next year!

Every One Loves the Pink Ribbons!

I think there is something about this pink ribbon that touches everyone!  So naturally it was fun and an honour to help someone out with a fundraiser.  These meaningful ribbbons topped our classic vanilla cupcakes for a special awareness event.  I hope we get the chance to help out again soon!

Ready, Set, & GO!

Its always fun to be able to make a special cake for a special person! My nephew Aaron was turning 3 and hes got a liking for the movie(s) CARS and especially Lightning Macqueen (sp?).  So to the drawing board I went.  Of course I was about 36 weeks pregnant at this point and the cake has to be brought up north to where he was camping.  These two things did limit my ability to go to over board with this theme.  We had fun with it still and I am pretty sure Aaron enjoyed his special cake too! Happy Birthday Aaron!

A Barrel of Monkeys!

Happy Birthday Dylan! Dylan has a liking for Julius the monkey by Paul Frank and so had a special request for those on top of his cupcakes for his recent birthday.  I am always nervous when it comes to replicating a "character" because there is so much room to be off the mark...
However Julius simple design made these cupcake toppers a lot of fun!
Happy Birthday Dylan! I hope you enjoyed Julius!

Ahoy Mates! Happy Birthday Ethan!

It was my nephews birthday and for his Birthday Cake he wanted pirates!  Looking and dreaming of different ways to do this, I thought what better then his very own pirate ship! So to the drawing board we went.  This was my first shaped cake so it was a bit of a learning experience.  But over all I am very happy with the turn out!  A vanilla cake & buttercream icing covered in chocolate fondant with all the fun pirate accents!  Loved the turn out and I think my nephew Ethan did too!
Congratulations Ethan!

A New Addition!

No, not a new baby yet... though him or her is coming Mid August....
We bought this beautiful cupcake/cake stand this last month.  We had been doing alot of research as
to what and where to get one and this is the one that trumped them all.  Though I hope to collect other cupcake stands (I do currently have some smaller options as well) this is a great addition for weddings and large events.  If you have an event and you would like it filled with cupcakes or just wondering if it can make an appearance at your next function send me a message I am willing to rent it out!
I will be posting its first use soon, so stay tuned!

Always something New! - Pull Away Cakes

Whenever asked to try something new, I can never say "NO".  If someone has an idea or something they have seen and would like me to try, I am always up for it!
A co-worker of mine had her son Kristian celebrating his birthday.  He is a Paintball fanatic and so we knew that would be the theme.  She also wanted cupcakes.  So we blended it together!  Pull away cakes (Cupcake cakes) have become quite popular.  The convenience of cupcakes, with the fun and design of a cake!
Here is a look at my first one.  I was pretty excited how it turned out and she was too! Vanilla/Chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla butter cream icing. MmMm. Splat!

Caterpillars, Cupcakes & Safaris! What Will The Theme For Your Next Childs Special Occasion Be?

These first few months of 2011 have brought on some pretty fun and creative "Frosted Treats".  Cameron, Emma & Grayson all turned 1 this year and there familes (Moms) wanted to ensure they celebrated in style.  I was honoured they came to us to help make this a success.

Cameron's birthday was first with "Hungry Caterpillar" themed cupakes.  Straight from the classic book written by Eric Carle we created not only the Caterpillar but some of the fun food he enjoyed too!  It was a lot of fun to recreate this story and bring it to life.

Next was Emma.  Her mom was after a "Smash Cake".  These are quite common and a lot of fun! A special cake just for Emma to enjoy all to herself!  I only wish I would of saw the out come of how dug right in!  Contrasts of Pink & white:  it was a simple yet classic look.  Perfect for a little princess!

Last but far from least was Grayson!  To celebrate his 1st birthday a Safari Theme was chosen.  With a special display of a little special Monkey.  With a colour bursting bottom layer of polkadots covering chocolate brown fondant , a 2nd layer with Zebra print cake and Palm Trees then topped with one cute little monkey.  The 2nd layer also had a mini Elephant hanging around too! Over all it was fun to create a mini Safari for the party!  What a fun cake to do!

It was fun to explore new themes & make all ideas come to life! Looking forward to the next special occasion and theme. Enjoy a few pics to see exactly what we were up to!

Welcome Baby Jayce!

Its always an extra special order when I get to attend the event where "Frosted Spoon" is being enjoyed.  A cousin of mine and his wife had a beautiful baby boy: Jayce.  I was honoured when my Aunt asked me to "Make the Cake" for the baby shower.  Except it was cupcakes this time.  I just love how cupcakes can brighten up the table! I had free reign to design something for the cupcakes and so went with some classic yet bright colours for the day.  A electric blue combined with chocolate brown, made both colours stand out uniquely.  Keeping along with the beautiful new baby theme, we did Ducks and J's.  It was a lot of fun.  The fun colours topped Red Velvet & Vanilla cupcakes.  With combinations of Cream Cheese & Vanilla Butter Cream Icing.  All great choices!
Welcome baby Jayce! So glad to celebrate your arrival!

Pretty with Pink!

Any time someone says "Pink" I already know I am going to love the outcome! Though I love all the colours in the rainbow; pink is by far my favourite! Ella wanted to suprise her niece at her Christening with a special sweet treat to remember! We created the classic flavours of Vanilla, Chocolate & Red velvet, then topped them with shades of pink & brown combinations.  The end product was a unique treat for a special day.

A Romantic Valentines Wedding.

The Colour RED: always a favourite & a classic.  However from a wedding point of view, its neat to see how it can be used for so many different types of themes.  John & Shannon's wedding day was no exception.  Splashes of Red & panels of Black gave there day a romantic feeling of "LOVE".  Frosted Spoon was honoured to be part of such an day & it impossible to not get right into the awesome feel of the day.  Shannon has great style & taste-buds and so we did a full cupcake tower of Red Velvet Cupcakes, topped with a Red Velvet cake & of course all of it complimented with fresh Cream Cheese - Butter Cream Icing.  There were a variety of flowers and designs covering the cupcakes giving each one a unique look.  When arranged at the venue with all the other beautiful designing, they were the perfect fit!
Congratulations John and Shannon!

Ode to An Amazing Shoe!

Well everyone, its been forever since I last posted or even updated this blog.   This is not a reflection of how things have been around here, but more just a busy life with full time work, a "sweet" business on the side and the enjoyment of mother hood.  I have had this awesome cake I have wanted to blog forever and made it my GOAL to finish this weekend.   Great Client and friend in the business Jessica was celebrating her mothers 50ths Birthday.  Jessica has an eye for style and knew her moms party should be no exceptions.  She ordered a sexy and sophisticated tall red high heel on top of a "50 and Fabulous" cake with a strand of pearls to match.  A great combination - Jimmy Choo watch out :)   Congratulations and thank you for again having us part of your special day! Sorry it took so long to put pics up! I have been anxious to get them here!

A Little Sports Nut!

Landon was celebrating his second birthday and there was no exception to needing a special cake and cupcakes!  Landon is really into sports, a favourite being Hockey!  So we created him his own rink with fondant nets and all! Paired up with some sports themed cupcakes and it was a real "Score".  Happy 2nd Birthday Landon!

A Winter Wonderland!

Two special little people in my life (Ethan and Grace) had school parties and needed a Winter/Christmas themed treat to bring in! Both moms gave us the honour of creating a special treat for the kids who were early looking forward to Christmas Holidays!  Some pictures of what we sent there way to put smiles on there faces!
